Jesse Anthony wins first stage of Tour of Utah

The Kelly Benefit Strategies-OptumHealth team scored an emphatic victory in Stage 1 of the Tour of Utah. Team rider Jesse Anthony rode a courageous race, alone for much of the way, and eventually sprinted to win from an elite group of 4 riders. This is one of the most important races in the season for the Mavic-sponsored team, and the win is especially sweet coming in front of several strong ProTeams.
The long, hot, and hilly stage began with an early break of four riders. Anthony rode alone for more than 20 miles to bridge across the large gap. After catching the leaders, he passed them and continued alone up the major climb of the day. Four strong riders caught him on the descent and he was able to recover in time to win the sprint to the finish line.
